It's exciting to see the all time classic tale of WONDER WOMAN being retold in the latest version out now in cinemas worldwide. Not only does it give life to the nostalgia of the women (and men :) who grew up with Wonder Woman as a role model to be inspired by, but our next generation girls are also now given the opportunity to be inspired by this legendary female hero too.
Role models and heroes such as Wonder Woman are an excellent way to encourage and inspire girls to embrace their inner power and shine bright in the world. There's also things you can do at home and in your everyday lives to support your growing girls being in their power.
Here's 3 Ideas to support girls embracing their Girl Power.
1. BODY CONFIDENCE
One of the best ways for a girl to feel confident about herself, is to feel confident about her body. To help your daughters feel strong in their body and healthy each day, they need to be encouraged to exercise and move their body. It could be anything from walking the dog around the block, to surfing before or after school or on the weekends, to playing a team sport, to dancing, to yoga. All of these exercises allow your girls to move their body and relax their mind. Exercise also helps to release endorphins, which triggers a positive feeling in the body and mind.
2. PLAY SPORT
Some girls are naturally sporty and some girls are not. Yet, all girls should be encouraged to play sport. If you can play a team sport, even better, because it develops your daughter's ability to build resilience, collaborate, develop leadership skills and make friends. By encouraging your girls to play a sport, you are giving them an opportunity to develop a new set of skills, get fit in their body and mind, goal set, set their sights on their dreams, and ultimately be in their power.
3. PURSUE PASSIONS
One of the reasons teenage girls or grown women suffer from inertia, depression, stress and anxiety is because their are not living a live they love, not pursuing their passions or dedicating time to their gifts and talents. We are all born with special gifts that make us unique. It's important to teach girls from a young age (although it's never too late to learn) to do activities that make them most happy and give them the deepest sense of fulfilment. When girls learn to do what they enjoy most, they are far more equipped to live a life driven by purpose than stumble along a rocky path not knowing what direction to take.
