One of the universal factors impacting a young girl's development, overall happiness and maintaining optimum health, is getting enough sleep each day. There are naturally going to be times when kids have late nights during fun sleepovers with their friends, special occasions and extended family gatherings. However, having a regular structure each night to not just get your kids to bed at a reasonable hour but also creating a regular ritual is vital to winding down their mind and creating a state of restfulness before your girls rest in deep sleep throughout the night.
Here's 3 Ideas to support girls getting regular restful and relaxing sleep.
1. REGULAR ROUTINE
Create a bedtime routine each night that allows ample wind down of your daughter's mind before her head hits the pillow to support her drifting off to sleep more effortlessly on a regular basis. This includes showering the day away with a warm shower or bath to relax the body and mind, turning off any technology and television well before bed time, doing activities that are calming like yoga, meditation, listening to music and reading a physical book (as apposed to an iPad or technology device).
2. RELEASE THOUGHTS
Girls can develop that 'worry wheel' mind from a very young age where they churn stressful thoughts over in their brain and try and solve it. Create space in your evening routine where your daughter can offload her thoughts and share any of her big or little worries before she goes to sleep. It's not always the perfect time for a parent to listen to a child's concerns, but it's usually this sacred bonding time of parent and child, that a daughter wants to offload, so build that into your regular bedtime routine.
3. SELF CARE
Teaching your girls to practise self care is one of the greatest gifts you can give your daughters. Remember to role model this self care behaviour so your gorgeous girls can see that you as their parent takes care of their health and happiness too.
